A showcase kitchen built to be walked through by thousands, and still to work for the family who lives there afterwards.
The family had lived above an empty basement for eleven years, largely because no one had ever settled what it was for.
We started with the programme rather than the plan: a bar that works for adults, a run of seating that works for teenagers, and a guest room that is genuinely usable. The layout followed easily once the brief was honest.
